By Emilio Jackson

During the summer, people scramble to find the best BBQ recipes for their cookouts. Outdoor grilling is a warm weather tradition and everyone enjoys trying new and unique foods. There is a wide array of combinations to select from and they all taste spectacular.

The cold winter months are long. People tend to spend most of their time inside. By the time warm weather rolls around, most people are anxious to get outdoors. This is the time when party planning begins. Every event needs to have great food and wonderful memories.

Every meal has an entree and it is the main highlight. The dish is most commonly some type of meat. Options include beef, pork or chicken.

Barbeque ribs is one of the best items served during those summertime cookouts. They are simple to make and are usually on special at the local supermarket. Boil the meat in salted water for a couple minutes. Remove them to a paper towel for draining. Place them onto a hot grill and brush on barbeque sauce with every turn allowing time for it to caramelize. The taste will be amazing.

For many people, wet sauces are unappealing. The only option in this case would be using a dry rub. Combine paprika, brown sugar, pepper, salt, garlic powder and dried mustard. Put it all over the meat, rubbing it in during the process. Grill like normally, taking care not to overcook or burn the ribs.

No cookout would be complete without hamburgers. They are especially popular with the kids. Combine two pounds of ground beef with a couple eggs. Stir in a couple tablespoons of water for moisture. When making up the patties make a small thumbprint in the middle to ensure that they do not swell when grilling. Provide guests with a variety of toppings including caramelized onions, fresh lettuce leaves and sliced tomatoes.

Although the entree is the first thing that everyone thinks about. The side dishes are often just as important. There is a wide range of choices when it comes to outdoor grilling.

No outdoor event would be complete without some potato salad. Everyone has a recipe for the dish. Prepare some boiled, cubed potatoes leaving the skins on. Mix the chunks with some Dijon mustard, salt, mayonnaise, pepper and dill. Additional options include hard cooked eggs, celery and green peppers. It is sure to disappear quickly when served to guests.

Another favorite is pasta salad. Just cook some macaroni and toss it with mayonnaise, chunks of tomato and cucumber along with diced onion. The results are refreshing and will please anyone who is looking for lighter options.

One thing that everyone looks forward to is dessert. It's important to create something that reflects the season. Poke holes into a baked white cake. Pour in some strawberry gelatin made with two cups of hot water. Put into the refrigerator overnight and then spread on some whipped cream. Finish the dish by topping it with sliced fresh strawberries.

The best BBQ recipes are those that are easy to make and please everyone's taste buds. Cook things that look and have lots of flavor. It will please everyone that comes to the cookout.
