By Kendra Ware

In years gone by weddings were usually pre arranged as a simple matter of purpose instead of love. The brides dress was designed to represent the families' wealth and most brides did not wear white. In fact medieval wedding gowns had a design that was usually blue or red to show purity and social standing, as these primary colored fabric dyes was the most difficult and expensive to acquire.

Queen Victoria wore a white wedding dress in 1840, starting a trend that grew into the traditional cream, ivory or white of today. White back then symbolized extreme wealth. Ladies sometimes also incorporate vibrantly colored accessories made from fur, silk, or velvet onto a dress and some added expensive jewels to complete the masterpieces.

Nowadays many brides are tired of the boring traditional pale dress choices; and have become attracted to Celtic and medieval bridal traditions of wearing intensely dyed dresses, only green is not worn as it is considered as bringing bad luck. Medieval theme weddings are becoming more and more popular these days with many individual brides hiring dressmakers that specialize in these types of designs. Most will end up being spoilt for choice by vast number of designers available.

For any one that decides to have one of these older styled gowns there are a few features that should be present. Elements that ought to be included are lace bodices, also decorative ribbon or trim on the neckline, sleeves and waist. Most will also consist of a tight fitting bodice with full skirt and a long coat worn over the dress.

Features like these add hints of an almost fairytale era, making the actual dress many times more exiting to wear and marvel at. Of course the not so courageous may also use color in smaller amounts as accents. These small effective bursts of color will create the merger of modern with a medieval time.

Budgets always dictate what a wife-to-be can ultimately purchase to wear and for that individual wanting something that is unique yet affordable this past era will offer gorgeous peasant styled cheaper garments. One supplier in particular has ready made gowns with price tags ranging between $89 and $199 for these simpler styles. However if the more sophisticated gowns are wanted then it will involve the use of richer fabrics for example silks and velvets in deep purple, burgundy, or blue. It should as per tradition have full length sleeves with elaborate trimmings and a corset with lace and gemstone detailing. Of course these designs can cost a person thousands of dollars.

Most of the more elaborate dresses are hand made so it is advised that it is ordered well in advance. Whether choosing a ballet, square, V, scoop or sweetheart neckline for those special medieval wedding gowns. The fact of the matter is every bride always looks beautiful on the big day.
