Ranking The Qualities For An Obstacle Event

By Rob Sutter

For those of you who are intrigued by the prospect of an obstacle event, I think that it's worth keeping a couple of ideas in particular in mind. These are the ones which will be able to provide the best results for you, whether or not you may have had them in mind starting off. Just how important all of these steps, though? There are some which are worth noting more than others but it's clear that these qualities deserve to be ranked. Here is where they fall, in my mind.

3. Physical prowess should be maintained when you're working towards a race. Those who want to make the most of such are not going to arrive on the track totally out of shape, are they? They understand what is needed for a competition and not working out for a number of months is not going to be the feature that brings home a win. As vital as this is, it's not exactly the biggest priority on the list, as there are others deserving of coverage.

2. Overall awareness is going to be needed if you're going to compete at a high level. The reason that I say this is because speed alone is not going to be able to assist you, at least not in terms of performing to the best of your ability. If you're going to operate on the playing field in some way, chances are that you're going to have to understand what your surroundings entail. If you manage to do this well, then you will thank yourself for remaining aware.

1. I think that a heightened level of confidence is going to be needed, more than anything else. It's most important to me because of how well those in competitions such as Spartan Race are able to operate. They understand what is at stake in this sort of obstacle event and are unafraid of the risks which may lie ahead. There are certain attitudes which may be needed to succeed but one brimming with reassurance can be beneficial since it may lead to more chances being taken.

If you think that ranking different concepts of an obstacle event is going to be different from one person to the next, you would not be wrong on the matter. In fact, I think that everyone is going to have their own opinions as far as this goes. Does physicality matter to some competitors more than anything which may be considered cognitive, for example? It truly depends on who is competing but it's clear that such ideas matter, whether individuals may be aware of their varying levels of importance or not.
