The Use Of A Window Bird Feeder To Bring Nature In Your Home

By Debra Garrison

Nature can be so beautiful. It can be such a delight to watch birds flying about and squirrels collecting nuts. A stroll through the park or a hike on a nature trail can show so many of the beautiful things nature has to offer. Of course, you don't need to go hiking to get close to nature. You can find it right in your back yard, or even from inside your house, by using the window bird feeder.

Feeding birds is something that has been enjoyable for people for a very long time. Bringing different kinds of aviary creatures into your yard can be an enjoyable pastime. You can attract many different kinds of birds by using varying kinds of seeds and feeders.

Feeds with black sunflower seeds will attract the largest variety of creatures. Virtually all seed eating birds will eat black sunflower seeds. Using a tray feeder will also open you up to attracting a wide variety of fowl.

If you want to be more specific in the types of birds you attract, you will have to use a specific kind of feeder and a specific kind of feed. You can also place around your yard many different kinds feeders so that many different kinds of birds are attracted.

If you are trying to bring in insect eating aviary creatures, such as woodpeckers, chickadees, or jays you will need to use suet. Hummingbirds eat liquid nectar and are attracted by brightly colored feed openings. Hopper feeders are good to attract sparrows, cardinals, and finches.

Using window feeders, however, can afford you an excellent view of many birds. These are held up by suctioning to the glass or hooking to the frame. Birds like the titmouse, finch, and chickadee are attracted to them.

It may also be the safest sort for the fowl. Easy cleaning means that it is easier to prevent a buildup of bacteria in the seed from water exposure. Also, the close proximity to the glass means that birds are less likely to injury themselves by flying into a window. This, unfortunately, is a common problem when stand feeders are placed close to windows.

Children and pets are also interested by window feeders. Children can gain educational experiences by watching and researching the birds that they see. It is a great activity to have your children draw pictures of the birds they see outside their window.

If you have an indoor cat, this is a great way to keep it entertained. It causes the cat to feel like it is exploring outside, but the birds stay safely on the other side of the glass. Dogs also like watching birds, and they especially like watching any squirrels that may wander onto a tray feeder.

The use of a window bird feeder is just one of the many options that you may choose from. However, no matter what option you choose, make sure not to provide any food in the winter. While many people assume this is helpful to the birds, it actually disrupts their patterns of migration.
