A Take On The Female Swedish Singer

By Irma Farrell

Each country can produce its own entertainment sensations. Sweden, in this regard, is like any other. Many actors and musicians have made their names within that country and some have gone to a more international stage, so to speak. For Swedish female singers, the history of these women is quite illustrious and deserves some attention. The can captivate on talent alone and here are a few examples as proof.

Theresa Andersson is one of these women who made it big. Born in 1972 somewhere in Gotland, Sweden, Andersson is a singer songwriter. She once made a video about her song Na Na Na, and uploaded it on the popular website, YouTube. It went on to have around one point two million views

Another example is Miss Li. Li, whose real name is Linda Carlsson, is a famous musician whose single was featured on a series on Showtime called Weeds. Other than that, there was the utilization of Bourgeois Shangri La, another one her of songs, in a commercial for the iPod Nano commercial.

Birgit Carp, known as Git Gay during her heyday, was a multi talented director, actress and vocalist. She was born Birgit Agda Holmberg in Karlshamn, Sweden in 1921. Her musical education began in earnest when her parents, wanting her to become a concerto pianist, had enrolled her to the Music Conservatory in Malmo.

She was eventually invited to be a prima donna at a summer revue by Sigge Holmberg, who was a director. The next year, she made a successful run at Klart Gronan, a revue in Grona Lund. Eventually her career path led to her becoming a senior TV presenter during the early nineties. This successful woman died in 2007, just eleven days shy of turning eighty six.

Clara Hagman is a member of the pop band Ace of Base. She was recruited to replace departing band members at the age of just eighteen years old. After her inclusion into the band, the new line up released its new album sometime in September 2010.

Then there was the famous Johanna Maria Lind, otherwise known as Jenny Lind. In her prime she was known as the Swedish Nightingale for her celebrated prowess when it comes to opera singing. One notable instance of her greatness was Der Freischutz, which made near achieve near legendary status. As good as she was, she was almost taken out of the game when vocal damage struck not long after her performance.

Even within the metal genre, there are notable women to point out. One of them is Anette Olzon, who used to be in a band known as Alyson Avenue. Now she is a second lead singer in Nightwish, which is a metal band with Finnish origins.

There are many more examples to cite from a very diverse pool of talent. The definition of a Swedish female singer is one that is changing with the times. With each new innovation and achievement, they, as a whole, elevate themselves just a little bit higher than they were before. They are a point of pride for their nation, and their talents will see to it that the world will see things that way as well.
