Browsing through estate sale jewelry and choosing which to buy is enjoyable as it is tasking. Most of the pieces sold in the event is considered time pieces. There are even others that are so unique it could fetch a good price in the market.

There are costume as well as authentic jewelry that are found in these kind of sale. The item may be valuable to the family such as heirloom jewels, or has historic importance. Before the sale, conduct proper research on all the items for sale to determine its significance and estimated value.

If you are not an experienced jeweler, you may not be able to spot the difference between real and costume. One way to identify a real gold or silver piece is by looking for the signs on the item that says so. You can also look for the mark an authentic jeweler hid somewhere in the item.

Recently made authentic jewels come with a certificate of authenticity from the maker. There are also pieces with barcodes and serial numbers for easy identification. However, these implements are not available in the past. Thus, the need for a proper appraisal by a person in authority.

The appraisal should be done before the pieces are identified for selling. By then, you already have an idea on the estimate worth. You can also check online resources for comparison of the items in the collection.

Do not focus on one market only. Explore other opportunities and venues where you can sell the piece that you have. You can sell it to a local jeweler or pawnshop near you for convenience. However, always remember that these persons will most probably resell it in their shops and will only offer a small price for it. You might want to try selling it on an auction. The clients that are doing the bidding is usually people who intends to wear it themselves or give it as a gift. These are the persons who are willing to pay a high price for a quality and antique piece.

Costume pieces can also have a value. It does not necessarily mean that it has no monetary value. There are costume pieces that have historic significance and may fetch a good sum if you have done your research and has the documentation as proof.

It is also advisable to know the proper maintenance and cleaning of all the pieces, authentic or otherwise. An authentic item that was destroyed because of the wrong cleaning solution used is as good as fake. To avoid diminishing the value of the estate sale jewelry, conduct the needed research on correct cleaning and maintenance.
