Artificial Flies - Fly Fishing Equipment

By John Xavier

Without a doubt there would be nothing more complicated or confusing in fly fishing equipment than the artificial flies. Flies are the ones used to attract the fish's attention and play a major role in catching a fish, its probably more important then any other fly fishing equipment, so you need to get it right.

there is nothing straightforward about choosing the right fly for the right fish, its a hard and complex thing to do. In the past when you wanted to choose a fly it was easy enough, because there were specially designed flies to suit a specific fish. As an example there were trout flies to be used specifically for trout and salmon flies to be used on salmon. you get the picture. But now there plenty more flies to consider as specific flies can now cater to the varying diets of a particular fish.

There is a couple of major differences now to consider, for example trout fish does not only have a singular trout fly, but also has flies that imitate frogs, worms, e.t.c. Another thing that will confuse a beginner, is that categories of US fly types are named differently than their British counterparts.

For example, what are called dry flies in the United States are simply called dries in the UK.

Regardless of the difference in names, they usually have the same set of sub-categories. Again this is where using the dry flies of an example, the sub-category of many flies will be and can be found in both categories.

Flies come in a widely different size range, from #2 to #22 with the former being the largest. So its not just the different types its also the different sizes that you need to consider.

Not to worry though as the confusion can be resolved by a good advice from reputable and experienced fly fishing equipment vendors. It is always a good idea to ask them when in doubt of which type of fly to buy when one goes fly fishing

Best fly lines are dedicated to being able to give in the best information possible when you are wanting to find out about fly fishing.
