What You Should Do As A Clothing Photographer

By Kathrine Franks

When you look at a magazine or buy stuff online you will see models. They are the hangers for the clothes and jewellery. They are just second in importance. The items should stand out not the model.

Fashion photography is different from other types. Being a clothing photographer means focusing on the details not the people. The details of the clothes or the accessories are important. People can be easier to photograph because they have a personality that will shine through.

When it is not worn, an item of clothing can look like a rag. It needs to hang on a garment rack or be worn so that it doesnt look so lifeless and flat. There are ways to make it beautiful. The proper lighting can give it dimension.

Clothing companies use steamers so that the apparel looks flawless in stores and on the web site. If you want to sell your own items you need to iron it before you take the pictures. A quick run through with an iron will do wonders in making the piece look better.

You can hire a model. That way the pictures will show how an outfit will look when worn. Hiring a model will cost more money and it might detract from the item.

Mannequins and dress forms will also give the same effect. They will show how the dress looks as worn by a person. Both of these items can be bought for a reasonable price. If you are an online seller, it is a good investment to buy one since you will be taking plenty of pictures of the things you will be selling.

Taking pictures of the apparel when folded is not a good idea. If it is folded the picture will not show the details of the piece. When you are selling the item the customers wants to see every detail. You want to give the potential customers several photos of one item. That way they feel as if it is the same as having the full in store shopping experience.

Apparel photography is mainly for commercial use. The fashion industry uses it for their magazines and catalogues. Businesses use it because a lot of people like to buy stuff online. Regular people who sell items online also do it. When you are dealing with customers that are shopping through a web site, the photos are all they have to go by. They rely on it to give them an accurate idea of what the clothes look like. That is why getting the best possible image is crucial.

If you are an online seller or trying to build and grow a following, you need to provide buyers with good images. It needs to look the way you would see it in person. Learning tips and tricks to enhance the qualities of the material and bring out the details can be easy. You can even teach yourself by practicing the digital techniques. Pictures that have the right composition and lighting are absolutely necessary. Attention to detail is key. Obviously well pressed and zero creases are a must when doing ecommerce.
