How To Write The Best Mystery Book Series For Adults

By Kerri Stout

Most people love reading novels that are eye catching and stimulating. However, for any author writing works of fiction can be quite a daunting task especially if you are including several stories in one novel. This is because it consumes most of your time, and you have to ensure that your story is fascinating and marketable for you to reap any benefits from it. If you want to write the best mystery book series for adults, here are some tips to help you.

Ensure that you have a lead character who is strong. This does not mean that he/she should be physically strong; however, he/she has to be likable and fascinating enough to handle several books. You must have a character that the readers will invest in without getting boring. They should be fascinated by the life of the individual and the adventures that he/she is involved in throughout the series.

You should make the books more interesting by using conflicts. You should solve several mysteries and resolve the problems that your characters have throughout the different novels that you plan to write. The idea is to use skirmishes that will hook your readers with your first novel and make them beg for subsequent fiction work.

You should ensure that all your novels are readable. This is important especially for individuals who will not have access to other publications in your stories. This is because the preceding stories may be integral to the whole novel. However, you should resist the urge of frog marching your new readers through all that they have missed.

You should ensure that your story is consistent to the end. Every character and world that you create has a set of core rules and the reader will only accept them as being real if there is consistency. Readers are keen to trust the world that you create and your characters provided that the rules and facts be applied consistently across every book in your series.

You should always keep a series bible. This will enable you to take note of the elements that you want to keep track of in your entire story. Some of the essential things are characters, timeline, settings, style and conflict. This will enable you to develop your story, provide reference materials for subsequent works of fiction and help you answer any questions that you have not foreseen.

It is important for you to consider the title of your book. The name that you use for the narrative will determine whether people will buy it or not. This is because it is what people will first see even before they read your story. In addition, it is the name that they will use when buying it and it can help them to easily find it in a bookstore.

All the narratives that you write in your series are important. Therefore, you have to ensure that you put all your energy and time to deliver a story that your adult readers will easily relate with and read until the end. Ensure that you utilize a style that will put you on top of other seasoned writers.
