By Eliza Mendoza

A residential landscape plan entails arranging of your outdoor environment so as to meet your requirements. The good thing about a well designed landscape is that it is not only functional but also quite attractive. In order for a landscape designer to create a plan that meets your needs he should adhere to the following steps.

The first step is to develop a plot plan. This plan should show the boundaries and the various physical features that will affect the design you will use. An ideal plan is supposed to include the lines and angles of the property. It is also important to locate the existing features on your property and house. Features like trees, shrubs, drain pipes, septic tanks, windows, doors, utility lines and any other feature near the property should be identified and recorded.

The next step is to conduct a site analysis. Plenty of time should be taken to be able to properly study the site and analyze its environmental features. One should observe the direction of the sun at different times of the year because the way it affects your house and the entire property at different seasons will influence the entire landscape design.

He should also observe the direction of the winter winds. This observance will help him in choosing the ideal location to install a windbreaker. This equipment is important to those who live in the mountains. However, when doing this, care should be taken not to block cool breeze that is needed in summer season especially for the outdoor living space. The other thing is to try and identify different views and any source of unnecessary noises.

During site analysis you should also check the soil. The various types of soil can greatly influence your landscape design. Some soil types like clay requires to be amended physically and chemically before any tree or shrub is planted on it. One should do a test on the soil to know the type and also the depth of the topsoil.

Assessing your family needs is the third step. A land scenery design that meets your requirements is affected by what your family needs. There are different land scenes that you should put into considerations. Such sceneries include outdoor entertainment, cloth lines, garbage cans, firewood storage, driveway, drainage and availability of parking for both your family and guests.

The forth step is locating various areas where different activities will be carried out. In this step, it is important knowing what you family requires. This will be helpful in deciding on the different areas that will be used for different purposes. It is recommended that you should have adequate space for different activities. This step involves dividing your plot into different sectors that will serve different purposes. Some of the areas that are defined in the land scenery include public, family and service utility. Each area should be created according to what your family needs.

The fifth step is to develop the use areas. To develop the family needs you should ensure the landscape design is able to create a private space with an attractive view from your terrace. Different materials can be used like wood which is treated or bricks and even concrete to make nice patios. Other materials like container plants can also be essential for enhancing the look for the outdoor space. Only a professional Landscape designer should do all this work for good results.
