On the mark, get set, go! Go shopping for Black Friday deals on the busiest retail shopping day of the entire year. Traditionally, Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, marks the official start of the winter holiday shopping season. On this day, hopeful retailers look forward to high profits and record setting sales. Hopeful consumers look forward to surviving the day and making some money saving purchases.

At this time, every year, retailers extend store operating hours, increase promotions and offer amazing sale prices on highly desired hot items. Black Friday is one of the most lucrative days of the year for traditional retailers and online stores. It has been the number one day for the past few years, improving over previous years.

Shopping malls, factory outlets and local retail stores start to become crowded with zealous shoppers, beginning after dinner on Thanksgiving. Nowadays, a number of major retailers start advertised Black Friday deals at some point on Thanksgiving Day. Seasoned holiday shoppers have learned that strategic planning and advance preparation are necessary survival procedures that contribute to a successful shopping experience.

Two or three weeks before Thanksgiving, a lot of major retailers start releasing sale ads and details. The Thanksgiving Day newspaper issues will be overloaded with promotional ads. Many stores offer special online sales, too. Shoppers can sign up to receive sale notices via emails from most major retailers. An online search will provide a sneak preview of many great bargains, also.

Doing some research online and watching the sales ads are two essential steps to prepare for a successful shopping excursion. Smart shoppers check out ads carefully, noting prices, special sale times, bonus buys, and online coupons and discounts. Making notes, cutting coupons, and collecting and organizing sale advertisements are vital preparatory steps. Concentrate efforts on the super bargains and priority purchases. There will be additional opportunities to shop for other things.

When shopping locally, if possible, do some scouting around the retail stores, malls and outlets. It is a good idea to go to the store and have a close look at the merchandise before racing to the sale on Friday. Inspect the item quality, the warranty and other details pertaining to the use or operation of the merchandise. Inquire about the store return policy, also.

Save time by shopping logically. The biggest shopping day of the year involves huge crowds, traffic jams and parking hassles. Plan and plot a shopping route that is convenient according to store locations and sale times to avoid missing the best buys. It is wise to get gas earlier during the week. Bringing along some handy drinks and snack foods is a good idea.

Surviving shopping for Black Friday deals and experiencing a successful beginning to the holiday shopping season is possible with proper preparation. Save all sales receipts and get gift receipts for all purchases, as well. Unfortunately, many stores have a limited number of the sale items. Fortunately, Cyber Monday presents another opportunity for purchasing more great bargains.
