How To Care For Curcuma Flower

Flowering plants add colors and fragrances to nature. People love to have them in their gardens as it enhances the aesthetics of the place. They patiently care and wait for it to bloom to see its mature beauty. One such flower is curcuma flower.

Curcuma is part of the family of ginger. In its taxonomy, it has many species under its genus or scientific name. Although, all species under this is known to love summer and being an overall tropical plant. One specie is curcuma alismatifolia or as known to Thai people, Siam tulip. It is okay to grow it indoors making it popular among flower enthusiasts and horticulturists.

Many foreigners love this flower so they brought some home to plant. They watch it carefully in their respective gardens as it grows gradually in structure. Purple and pink petals bloom after its flower buds grow maturely. What is good about this flower is that handling and caring for it is easy.

Remember, this flower is used to the tropical climate. Thus, when caring for it, it needs to have much sunlight to grow. Direct sunlight exposure is not really needed. So, you can place its pot on the windowsills and on balconies. When the sun is blocked, you can make use of artificial lights as alternative source. Leave it directly under it for sixteen hours every day.

Sometimes it happens that the soil gets dried out due to too much heat. When this occurs, replace them under partial shades. That way, you keep its soil moist that helps it in its growth. One benefit of placing it under shades is it will hold its health pretty well to drying conditions.

Undoubtedly, these flowers thrive in environments with high humidity. So, check the humidity levels each day to ensure optimal temperature of more than fifty degrees. It happens that levels will drop below that so use a room humidifier or a pebble tray to raise the temperature. This way, moisture is maintained to ideal levels.

Speaking of soil, this plant requires moist and well drained one like humus. It needs to have organic materials within its compositions like compost. If you are using soils that are high in sand and clay contents, you should the organic materials in it before planting the Siam Tulips to the pot. For fertilizers, any generic ones will do as long as you remember to fertilize its soil once in summer and in spring.

Drainage holes are a requirement for the pots you are using. If not, then you have flowers swimming in excess water and have offshoots or rhizomes rotting in the soil. Water should be poured in moderate amounts to prevent this from happening. It is enough to keep and retain soil moisture each week.

Come winter time, the Siam tulips will rest by starting to lay dormant. When you see that this season is approaching, you need to stop fertilizing the soil and watering the plants. That way, the leave will naturally turn yellow and die. When spring comes, those leaves will regrow once more as it resumes its life cycle. In early spring, you need to remember to place the offshoots in fresh mixture of soil before resuming you care routine in early.
