By Nancy Richardson

Black bamboo is a certain species of bamboo that produces flowers at some point during its life cycle. It belongs to the Poaceae grass family. The scientific name of this plant is Phyllostachys nigra. Although widely cultivated in the whole world now, the place of origin is in the Chinese province of Hunan. Today many people from all the continents raise black bamboo plants in pots for cosmetic reasons in their homes and offices.

The plant grows to form slender, arching canes, which turn their color to blackish after 2-3 seasons of growth. There are close relatives of the plant, which some people opt for including f. Henonis. Mature canes can grow to a height of three to five meters into the sky. The height is dependent on several factors such as light exposure and fertility of the soil. This plant rarely produces flowers and seeds and if it does, they last a very short time. Reproduction is mostly through underground rhizomes.

The society today has many uses for Phyllostachys nigra. In China, the plant has been used as a food source for a long time. It is also a good source of lumber and fuel. The lumber derived from them is useful for making musical instruments and furniture among other products. Floorings are an example of products made from the canes.

There are many companies that are now specialized in producing and distributing this plant to people. Such firms do all the ground work to ensure that clients have beautiful looking plants that they need. Clients can choose to pot the plant themselves or they can order ones that are already potted. Most companies that make supplies are comfortable with either option. Some suppliers also supply other accessories such as pots.

Sellers maintain websites from which clients can place orders for this plant. Websites present buyers with several payment methods so that they can choose whichever is most suitable for them. Most companies try to make deliveries within the shortest time possible to avoid inconveniences. One should provide all relevant information at the time of order placement to make deliveries easier.

The uses of potted black bamboo plants are very many in modern lifestyles. The pots may be placed inside or outside buildings. When they occupy outside space, they make the vicinity look beautiful. Coupling the beauty they present with resistance to drought and frost, they become very attractive to beginners in gardening. The quality of being able to resist drought and frost makes them very preferable by many people worldwide.

This bamboo species need little care to thrive. When placed inside the house or office, the plant not only serves aesthetic purposes but also helps in freshening the air. Plants utilize the carbon dioxide exhaled by people for the manufacture of its own food. In doing so, it prevents an accumulation of CO2 from forming inside buildings. Therefore, it produces a freshening effect by eliminating CO2 and pumping oxygen into the air.

The plant also helps in minimizing noise levels in offices. The leaves are very effective at absorbing noise that originates from echoes and halls. It achieves this by modifying the acoustic properties of the space.
