How To Choose The Best Home Theater Sound System

By Bradd Alan

If you are going to buy a home theater and not budget for a great audio system, then that rules out the fun in it. In order to enjoy the power of your home theater completely, you need to get a good sound system. Great supplementary sound is essential for real life movie experience

A proper home theater audio system usually consists of a set of speakers and an amplifier. The set is made up of a subwoofer, surround speakers, two front speakers, a center channel speaker, and in some systems two rear speakers. For your home system to produce quality sound like that of a movie theater, it needs to coordinate all these components.

The center speaker plays a major role in the set. This speaker works to reproduce almost the entire movie dialogue and almost half of a particular sound track. As such, the best place to put this speaker for full effects is right above the screen or below it.

The quality of your sound system will be influenced by the nature of the room you keep it. Different rooms will produce different effects. This is primarily due to the contents of the room, its dimensions, and shape that affect the way sound is amplified. If you want to place your home theater in the living room with lots of activities, let the components be hidden from normal view.

Home-theater sound systems come in various brands. However, there is the option of buying either an entire set or different components from different manufacturers and then synchronizing them. If you decide to mix the components, make sure that all the speakers are compatible with each other and can work as a set. Speakers that come as a complete set with the same brand naturally complement each other in the sound system.

Technological advances in the recent years have seen plenty of competition in the home theater and sound system market. As such, it can be quite hard determining which system to get among the different models available without some basic knowledge. Do some research and carry out a window shopping expedition at various electronic shops to find out about their products. This way, you will make an informed decision and purchase the ideal system for you.

Some systems will require purchasing a separate amp to boost the speakers. As such, find out if your home theater system can amplify the speakers or you will need to get a dedicated amp. Fortunately, modern packages come packed with almost everything you need for setting up the speakers. However, if you want to buy separate components and piece them together, you may want to purchase a separate amp for that matter. A 100-watt amplifier will almost certainly guarantee enough power to serve your entire home theater collection.

Look for an audio system that will fit well with your room. You do not need to purchase a five speaker surround system if you are going to put it in a small den. However, remember that there will be extra wires to hide with the more speakers you add, unless you are buying a wireless system.
