Choosing Wild Bird Feeders For Sale

By Lisa Williamson

People often like to feed birds in their garden. Often this can be relaxing in and of itself. For some people it allows them to see rare species they would not necessarily be able to see out and about in the city. Equally feeding birds is important because some do not migrate in the winter months and may struggle to find food. This is why you should find the right wild bird feeders for sale.

Before buying a feeder you need to think about what types of bird you want to attract to your garden. Some people may only want one or two whereas other people may want to attract as many as possible. This should then help you decide what type is most appropriate for your personal requirements.

If you do not mind the species you attract or you want to attract a lot of different types of birds then a platform is best. This is an area where you can spread seed or other items of food. Equally you may want to hang seed packets and balls of fat on the side as well in order to get the widest variety.

Another example are mesh feeders. These are best suited to species that naturally peck at trees in the wild and therefore are used to do this in order to get food. Typically these will be ones that contain nuts or balls of fat. This is ideal if you want a specific type of species in your garden and to dissuade others who do not go for this kind of food or use this kind of technique to get at them.

You also have to consider the size of the feeder before you buy it. If it is too small then it can mean that it will get easily damaged in windy conditions. However if the one you choose is too large then it can be difficult to hang them up. You should also make sure that the feeder is reasonably user friendly and easy to refill.

There is also the issue of how large the feeder is and whether it is right for your garden. If it is too small then it is more likely to get damaged in high winds. If the feeder is too large then it can be a lot harder to hang in the garden. You also need to be sure that they are made of the right material. Wood may look more natural but it is more likely to get damaged then one that is made of metal. However metal items may be damaged in direct sunlight so you need to be careful when hanging them up.

Another potential problem is the size of the holes in the feeder. You need to be sure that the birds are able to access the food inside. However if the holes are too big then you can lose a lot of seed and end up having to spend a lot more money refilling the feeder for this reason.

You can find a number of wild bird feeders available online. It is worth looking at a number of customer reviews and recommendations on social media before purchasing them. Furthermore remember to check product specifications before ordering a product to make sure that it is appropriate for your garden. With a sensible approach you will be able to choose the right feeder to suit your needs.
