Three Preparation Tips And Tricks For The Color Run 5K

By Sarah X. Felix

Before heading out to run or walk in the Color Run 5k, there are some things that participants should think about. Besides being prepared for a 5k run, or walk, participants should remember that the run involves a lot of color bombs thrown onto participants and should plan accordingly. Here are several tips for planning for the run.

It is an excellent idea to get the packet with event details as early as possible and a white shirt as well. When a run is done on a Saturday, the packets can be picked up on the Thursday and Friday before. If the run is going to be on a Sunday then the packets get picked up on the Friday and Saturday before. The packets are given out beginning at 10 am and running until 7 pm both days. It's critical to have a form of identification when retrieving the packet. Finding or purchasing a white shirt well before the date is also important. The runner should make sure the shirt is comfortable for both running in and for getting color all over.

The color isn't going to just be confined to the white shirt though and runners in the Color Run 5k should plan for this reality. The color will be everywhere by the end of the event, including all of the runners' clothing and skin that isn't covered up. Covering any body part that might not like being covered in the color is something all runners should do. For those with light colored hair, leave-in conditioner or olive or coconut oil applied to the hair before the race will help keep hair from being dyed. It also helps to utilize a bandana to cover up hair as well. The best protection for the eyes includes aviator style sunglasses or even goggles or glasses that wrap around.

To get cleaned up after the Color Run San Diego, runners should start by just dusting everything off as thoroughly as possible. This works because the color is merely colored corn starch which easily dusts off of most things. Runners are reminded not to utilize any water on the color unless necessary because water can make the dyes colors transfer to anything it touches.

The Color Run 5k is a fun event that can become one of the most memorable events of participants' lifetimes with a bit of good planning. The most fun will be had by those who plan to get their shirt and packet as early as they are able to.
