By Drew Danson

Did you know that there are many things you can do with your butane kitchen lighter other than brown sugar crusts or meringues for desserts? In fact, if you know how to use your lighter correctly, you can actually use the lighter to crisp meats. When you do this correctly, the meat will include a crispy shell that will not detract from the juiciness within. If you have never considered this before, it is certainly something you will want to try. Here are the steps you need to take in order to crisp meats.

What kind of torch lighter do I need? Almost any torch lighter will work well if it is adjustable. It is absolutely vital that you be able to adjust the setting of the flame on the torch. That is because you will need to set it to medium to crisp skinned meats like poultry. Then, you will need to set the lighter on high to blacken harder meats like fish and steaks. When you choose a torch lighter, make sure that you can adjust the flame on it.

How do I crisp the meat with the torch lighter? This will depend on the type of meat. If you are crisping the skin of chicken or turkey, you will just want to pass the flame over the skin slowly and evenly. Do not allow the torch to stay in one place for too long or you will burn the meat. If you are blackening fish or steak, then you will want to turn the flame on high and then just concentrate on the edges of the meat. In this case, you can allow the flame to stay in one place a bit longer, but you will still not want to burn the meat.

When the meat takes on a slightly more brown color, you will know that the crisping is complete. It is vital that you do not burn your meats because this will cause the whole meat to take on a scorched flavor. Do not over crisp and you will be able to enjoy the perfect meats for your meals.

Did you know that you can crisp meat with your torch lighter? Now that you do, you can get started trying it out so that you can create even more enjoyable and even more tasteful meals.
