Your Patchwork Quilt – A Tapestry of Your Life

By Jane Green

While talking with my friend the other day, they told me about a thought they had. They're an eager quilter, with a preference for patchwork quilts and while working on one, they noticed a correlation between the way in which the quilt itself was similar to life in a number of ways.

Colourful Personality

Each patchwork quilt is one of a kind piece, made up of a variety of pieces of materials and when it comes together it forms a quilt that is unique in its own way.

This too is correct for every person on this planet, each of us has had different experiences "some good, some bad, and these form together to make up the person they are right now.

Personality

Just like people have personalities patchwork quilts have personalities of their own as well. The unique colors of the materials and the feel of the textures used in it all mix to make a quilt that has different qualities than other of the same kinds of quilts.

A very simliar line can be drawn around how folks are made up. The people they encounter in life, their teachers, mentors and the experiences they have, all weave together to make a character that may respond differently to different scenarios.

It's this unique array of character traits and experiences that we identify with, and warm to, as their own story shines through and warms our hearts.

Length

Cruising through life, you collect experiences and memories. So that the longer you live the more you collect, and that is why older people have a lot of experiences and stories they can share with you.

A similar thing is applicable to these quilts. The longer you work on them, the more pieces get added to the quilt, the bigger it becomes each one has its own story to hear.

You know what? I think my friend was on to something! I think I'm going to have a good hard look at my prior patchwork quilts and see what sort of lives they lived.
