It Is The Moment To Sort Out Trips Before The Finish Of The Fishing Season

By Jon Izzard

Is this the 1st proper day of spring? It is fantastic outside the glass and when I drove my little boy to kindergarten earlier there was some definite warmth in evidence in the sunshine. It must mean, at least apart from the occasional frost in the morning, that winter is finished and gone and I'm thinking that we're well shot of it. And with the conclusion of the fishing season coming at the end of this month, the circumstances are right to get out the fishing books and try to find a destination to go and have some final maggot drowning in while the going is good and the waterside is open.

As far as the fishing tackle shops are concerned, this has to be the month when they are able begin to adjust for the shortage found in their turnover caused by anglers like me who, and I have never been humiliated to say it, are good weather tackle danglers and have no wish to wrap up like Ernest Shackleton so as to sit next to the pond. Certainly one occasion when I went on a fishing travel trip in January to take advantage of low cost rates at a very well known spot which would generally be hideously expensive which was a dreadful time as it was very freezing, in fact so cold the fish were not feeling up for the game either.

So now, those like myself will be coming from our insulated cocoons and dashing for the river's edge, and those who can afford the time and money will be thinking about going away and scanning the fishing travel adverts in the fishing magazines and internet sites with more than a casual interest.

Certainly, sellers of tackle and other fishing goods and services will now be attempting to make as much cash between now and the end of the month which demarks the conclusion of the course fishing season until mid-June while the fish get on with spawning and creating little fish for coming seasons. In the meantime there are lots of fishing books to catch up on.

And for those who cannot wait of course, there are options and here again the fishing travel adverts can be of use to show us what is available elsewhere where the season is unaffected such as the fly fishing spots, and sea fishing. We are off to Fuerteventura next month although fishing is not the motive for that. It has more to do with the finish of my wife's cancer treatment earlier this year and less about the fishing, but the house does contain a barbeque, so I really fancy going and catching some supper. I can also catch up on the fishing books by the pool and arrange the next season's course fishing trips.
