Enough Horror Movies Online To Scare You Forever

By Adriana Noton

If you are fan of horror, the web is now the best source for these films, whether you are searching for major blockbusters or those ones that most video stores have not even heard of. Horror has always been a leading genre when it comes to independent movies, ever since they became part of popular culture in the Fifties. You can find these and other horror movies online on many video hosting sites.

Horrors have been around since the beginning of cinema. One of the first ever silent movies was the vampire story, Nosferatu, and you can even find it on some websites, as many of these early classics are now in the public domain. However when sound was introduced, and screams could be heard, cinema, and horrors, changed significantly.

The genre continued to steadily grow until the Fifties when it suddenly exploded. Suddenly studios popped up all around the world dedicated specifically to making scary cinema. Legendary characters and creatures like the Wolfman, Frankenstein and Count Dracula were regular film subjects, and many of the classic horror movies online like these are easy to find.

There are literally thousands of B-movie titles to be found from the fifties and sixties. When the Drive-In craze hit America, some of the most popular films were horror and science fiction. Many of these B-movie classics have been archived on the internet.

In the Sixties it was the turn of many top directors to lead the genre. If you watch any of Alfred Hitchcock's horror movies online like Psycho or The Birds, you will see the work of a true master of the craft at work, and they normally won many awards. But it was also the decade that introduced George Romero to the world. Night Of The Living Dead, released in 1968, would influence an entire generation of filmmakers and fans alike.

Today zombies are big business. There have been major studio re-makes, video games, and even home-video fan versions. Fans loved them so much, that many of these home-videos are actually pretty good, and has even led to professional careers for many of the make-up artists, special effects artists and directors who made them.

In the Seventies scary movies began to dominate all the markets, whether they were award-winning studio films like Jaws and The Exorcist, or independent gore films like Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

This period also led to a number of very successful franchises, including Friday the Thirteenth, Halloween and the Nightmare on Elm Street. This became the normal trend with successful horrors, while more recently these titles have also been re-made for a new audience.

The past two decades has seen scary productions come from all corners of the world, with many of the best coming from Asia, and Japan specifically. The web has brought all these productions one step closer, so if you are looking for a fright, get searching now.
