Sweet Facts About Ginger Lilies

For some people, having a small garden means reserving a place where you can enjoy a microcosm of mother nature at its raw beauty. You would need plants that do not only give a beautiful sight to your special area, but also repels insects that might otherwise ruin your moments of relaxations. This is what the ginger lilies are capable of doing, just like making two bases with a single strike.

If you want to plant something that will add aesthetic quality to your garden, this surely will be the answer to your needs. It is so easy to propagate and you can do it basically where there is a soil for it to grow on. You would even be deceived by its early appearance as a young rhizome because it closely resembles the ginger plant.

It looks like a little banana since the shape of its leaves looks like it, but what stands out are the orange to white flowers protruding on the side of the stem on some variety. Others have flowers that blooms on the topmost point of the bud, often showing hair like projections from the petals. They do not take up so much room as they just grow vertically all the year round.

There are different varieties of this plant, and the most popular is the one that blooms a butterfly shaped flower. As its name implies, what even makes this variety one of a kind is the scent it emits, which is often described between that of honeysuckle and gardenia. Having this in your garden certainly will make your place the most relaxing area ever in the house.

It will thrive in an area full of sunshine, though it would be best to put them in area where there are shades. It can take on direct sunlight during the afternoon, but the best preference would be to put them away from such condition and water them always. Keeping the soil wet at all times is one of the secrets of keeping this plant alive.

They need to be watered always and you may put some organic fertilizer if you want. Most likely they would thrive most in acidic, moist soil as they could not withstand a surrounding with high temperatures and strong winds. Though its roots are deep in the soil, they need to be continuously nourished.

Use organic soil purchased from a store or you can make such using a guide from the farmers. When buds started to grow on the nodes, you need to transfer them to their permanent bases. After most of its flowers would fall or fade, the old stems must be cut away to expand and make room for new buds.

These Indian and tropical Asian plant needs a lot of soil with organic composition, basically with natural fertilizer if you want to. To let them expand faster, cut off its old stems after the budding flowers will fade to make way for new ones. Preferably, propagation should be done when there is plenty of rain to be expected at that time, for instance early on the spring or late of fall season.

Though the prerequisites for planting these may sound difficult, they are hardy plants which requires minimum attention and care. When you have these in your garden, you can be assured that the scent alone is like no other that it seems you are in a special place. Their beautiful sight and amazing smell is just the right for the senses.
