For Better Music Oakland Should Be Prioritized

By Scott Scott

Music as a kind of art and cultural activity uses sound and silence as the medium. The English word originated from the term mousike, a Greek word. Mousike refers to the nine goddesses who inspire the arts, literature, and science according to Greek mythology. The muses are a source of knowledge embodied in poetry, cultural myths, and song-lyrics. When in need of learning about music Oakland is one of the best places to consider visiting.

The motives behind listening or participating in this art differ among people. Besides the aesthetic pleasure and religious purposes, people also produce the art for commercial reasons. Commercial products are distributed to the public to buy. The Romantic and Classical eras did not have recorded music and people bought music sheets to play them at home on personal pianos. When sounding recording technology was invented, it became much easier to listen and produce this art.

Technology in this field has seen significant growth and expansion. In the 1980s, the home tape recorder was invented, followed by digital music in the 1990s. The latter allowed people to carry MP3 players and portable cassette players so that they could listen to a playlist of their favorite pieces. People make mix tapes of favorite songs to serve as prescription for parties, self-portrait, and gifts for other people.

Many people love music, with some producing it for self-pleasure while doing other activities for income, especially amateur musicians. Various institutions employ professional musicians to perform in various events. Some of the institutions that employ professional musicians are churches and synagogues, film production or broadcasting companies, symphony orchestras, music schools, and the armed forces. One major application in the armed forces is marching bands.

Professional musicians also freelance and work as session musicians in various settings. They seek engagements and contracts in this case. Professional musicians are also known for training their amateur counterparts. Amateur and professional musicians perform together in some cases such as, concert bands and community orchestras. Musicians perform in studios or before audiences in live settings.

Music that is produced within a studio and that which musicians perform in live concerts in front of audiences differ in many aspects. Product of the studio is meant for recording and distribution to buyers at a cost. In most cases, performances are not recorded. If recorded legally, they are highly valued and may be distributed through the internet and other forms of media.

Music is made of various elements including sonic qualities of timbre and the texture, rhythm, pitch, and harmony. The government of melody and harmony is done by pitch, whereas rhythm has concepts like tempo, meter, and articulation associated with it. The elements are emphasized to different levels in various styles.

Many different musical instruments and vocal techniques are needed for the performance of this art. The range of the vocal techniques is wide and include rapping and instrument-free singing. The art was discovered a long time ago and a lot of evolution has occurred in the various styles and aspects. Old styles are left for new styles that come up regularly. Expansion into new places is occurring at a high rate as technology improves.
