Some Of The Famous Wiccan Holidays

By Roseann Hudson

Almost all the holidays that modern day people would actually celebrate would come from the traditional holidays in the wiccan culture. The wiccans really religiously practice each holiday because they believe that it is a tribute to the power of nature wherein they would also receive powers. Now just so one would know, these are some of the most crucial wiccan holidays in history.

Everyone probably knows about the famous holiday that is known as Halloween where the kids play dress up and go trick or treating from door to door. Although this is a popular holiday that is meant for kids nowadays, it has its origin from the Pagan holiday that is known as the Feast of Samhain. It also takes place on October 31st and it is the time where the veil between the afterlife and the world of the living is at its thinnest.

Now everyone knows that Christmas is known to be the birth of Christ but what many do not know is that the event itself did not happen on December 24. The date December 24 came from the date of the Pagan holiday which is known as Yule. This event transpires during December 23 and it is the time wherein the Sun God is born anew.

Now Easter Day is another widely celebrated tradition that many kids would celebrate as well. However, according to the Druidic lore, this holiday actually came from Ostara which is the time of fertility and is on the month of March 21. The Easter bunny actually came from the symbol of the Goddess of fertility which was actually a rabbit that was holding an egg.

One of the biggest holidays that is celebrated by the wiccans and the pagans would be known as Beltane. Beltane is actually the date of the coronation of the Sun god and it is a time when the sun gets stronger which results in blossoming flowers and vibrant greenery. It is usually celebrated either on April 30 or May 1 which is actually the same time as modern day summer vacation.

Now Mabon is a very important and enjoyable tradition to the wiccans because it is the time where they will be feasting on good food and drinks. Now this would happen during the 21st day of September which happens to be the Autumn Equinox. Its counterpart would be the modern day holiday tradition that is known as Thanksgiving day.

Now one very important tradition or ritual that is practiced would be Litha during the midsummer. If one would observe, it is during the midsummer that the sun is at its peak when it comes to heat. Now this ritual which happens on June 21, is the time wherein the Sun God is supposedly at his most powerful and the wiccans are paying tribute to his power.

So as one would observe, each holiday would actually have a Pagan origin. Now if one is a witch or a wiccan, he would have to observe all of these holidays. In the modern world, everyone is actually still celebrating these Pagan traditions but in a more commercialized manner.
